Teams of youth interested in learning crop scouting and competing for cash prizes are encouraged to enter the 5th annual Crop Scouting Competition for Nebraska Youth. Teams are encouraged to form and register now for the July 26 event so they can start studies and preparations to compete.
Applications are due by April 1 for teams of youth participating in the 2018 Innovative Youth Corn Challenge to implement a production practice different than normal to determine if it increased yield.
Winners of the 2017 Innovative Youth Corn Challenge were recently recognized at the annual banquet. Through the contest, youth groups theorize the effect of changing a corn production practice and then test it, using science-based research methods.
Five teams of talented youth crop scouts recently vied for the state title. Congratulations to all who tested their skills and good luck to the Colfax County 4-H and Kornhusker Kids 4-H Club of Cuming County who will move on to regionals.
Youth ages nine to 14 years old and adults are invited to the 2nd annual Agronomy Youth Field Day at the campus of the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture on August 9. Participants will gain important life skills while discovering the science behind Nebraska crop production.
Registration is now open for the 2017 Youth Crop Scouting Competition to be held this August in eastern Nebraska. The contest is open to FFA and 4-H club members and will help those interested in crops test their skills and those new to crops better understand crop production.
