Ag Tech Focus of Agronomy Youth Field Day July 9 in Curtis

Nebraska youth interested in exploring how new technologies are impacting soil management and crop production are encouraged to attend the 8th Annual Agronomy Youth Field Day on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture campus in Curtis, Nebraska.

Sponsored by NCTA and Nebraska Extension, the field day is free to attend and open statewide to all youth ages 9-18 as of Jan. 1, 2024. Parents and adults are also welcome. The field day is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch provided by Ag Valley Coop and water bottles by Farm Credit.

Throughout the day, there will be hands-on activities with two different age tracts for youth to learn how agriculture is changing with precision technology. Activities include:

  • Aerial crop scouting using drones.
  • Insect/arthropod scavenger hunt and trapping.
  • GPS soil sampling.
  • Soil lab science.
  • Exploring herbicides and fungicides.
  • Practice your mini drone flying.

Learn from local Nebraska Extension and NCTA crop and water educators/researchers, Bayer Crop scientists and Nebraska Extension’s digital ag educator.
