2026 Wheat Variety Trial Results Impacted by Drought, Freeze Damage

Persistent drought and repeated freeze events significantly impacted Nebraska's 2026 wheat crop, resulting in substantial yield losses, particularly in the Panhandle and West Central regions. Consequently, many variety trial locations were either unharvestable or have data that are not suitable for reliable decision-making. Growers and industry partners are encouraged to use results from the 2024 and 2025 Nebraska Wheat Variety Trials to help guide variety selection and management decisions this year.

Certified seed is expected to be in limited supply this year. Growers are encouraged to reserve seed as soon as planting plans are finalized.
