Number of Nebraska Certified Organic Operations up 47% Since 2016

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service has released the results of its 2019 Certified Organic Survey. Certified organic operations in Nebraska sold a total of $185 million in organic products in 2019, up 92% compared to 2016. The number of certified organic operations in Nebraska totaled 238, up 47% from 2016.

Farm Starts Seminar for Beginning Organic Growers

A Farm Starts workshop will be held August 14 in Beatrice to provide growers in their first decade of farming information on organic crop production and business and marketing practices. The programs are free and those who have been farming less than 10 years may be eligible for $200 to cover farm leave and travel expenses, said Tim Ennis, program coordinator.
