Wheat variety Byrd
Byrd is an awned, white-glumed, hard red winter wheat released by the Colorado Agricultural Experiment Station. It is a medium-height variety with good straw strength that is medium maturing with intermediate coleoptile length. Straw strength of Byrd appears to be average to above average with severe lodging only occurring under extremely high yielding irrigated conditions.

  • Moderately resistant to strip rust

  • Resistant to Ug99 stem rust and its derivatives

  • Moderately resistant to Powdery Mildew

  • Moderately susceptible to leaf rust and US races of stem rust.

  • Moderately susceptible to wheat streak mosaic virus and barley yellow dwarf virus

  • Susceptible to Hessian Fly.

  • U.S. Plant Variety Protection Applied For. (PVPA 1994). Certificate No. 2012004342. Byrd can only be sold as a class of certified seed.
