CW 09-12-17 2010 Burn Schools with Charles Taylor
Charles “Butch” Taylor, director of the Texas A&M University Sonora Research Station, will be the lead instructor at the 2010 Prescribed Burn Schools. They will be held in early February in Sargent (Feb. 1), Gibbon (Feb. 2), Wellfleet (Feb. 3) , and Gothenburg (Feb. 4). Taylor also will speak at a firefighters night school Feb. 3 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in North Platte.

Cheatgrass, downy brome, bluegrass, smooth brome and other cool-season plants have invaded many warm-season grass pastures and rangeland. This invasion shifts good grazing away from summer and toward spring when most folks have plenty of pasture anyway.
Adding Legumes to Pastures

Adding legumes to hay meadows and cool-season pastures is the best way to increase forage quality and animal performance from these forages. Legumes add protein and are readily consumer and digested by animals. Legumes also make their own nitrogen, which means fertilizer costs may decrease.
