Weather models are currently showing a surge of freezing temperatures dropping into the northern Corn Belt September 24-29, with the most likelihood of killing freezes expected Sept. 28.

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) announced today that Nebraska will receive additional funding from USDA to aid the state’s organic producers and processors with certification costs.

During early fall alfalfa plants detect the decreasing sunlight and adjust their growth process to winterize themselves.
If you cut alfalfa during this winterizing period, the plant begins to regrow. This reduces its ability to become as fully winterized as it would be without a cutting.
