USDA Crop Production Report
Based on September 1 conditions, Nebraska's 2014 corn crop is forecast at 1.57 billion bushels, down 4% from last year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Nationally, both the corn and soybean crops would set new yield records if projections hold true.

As growers complete corn and soybean planting, it's a good time to install Atmometers or ETgages as well as Watermark Sensors. We hope you won't need to irrigate for several weeks, but now is the time to begin making plans.

Earlier this month there was a large bumble bee kill in Oregon involving a landscaper using a pesticide to control aphids in linden trees at a Target parking lot.

We are starting to get more reports of spider mites damaging corn and soybeans in eastern Nebraska. Previously we had reports of Banks grass mites colonizing corn near wheat in central and western Nebraska.
