I am the Animal Manure Management Extension Educator at the University of Nebraska. My role includes facilitating article development for manure.unl.edu and manure-related articles in other publications. I manage the online manure course and annual manure trainings across the state of Nebraska, as well as other manure programming in the state. I also serve as the webinar coordinator for the Livestock and Poultry Environmental Learning Community (https://lpelc.org) and am actively involved in the leadership team of the Soil Health Nexus (https://soilhealthnexus.org).

Why You'll Want to Sample for SCN This Fall

That's how much Nebraska soybean farmers are estimated to have lost to soybean cyst nematodes (SCN) last year.

The good news is that loss will decrease in 2014. The bad news is that's because the price of soybeans is lower, not because SCN is any less common.

USDA Crop Production Report

Based on September 1 conditions, Nebraska's 2014 corn crop is forecast at 1.57 billion bushels, down 4% from last year, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Nationally, both the corn and soybean crops would set new yield records if projections hold true.
