Nebraska Wheat Forecast Drops 9%
May 15, 2009 Based on May 1 conditions, Nebraska's 2009 winterwheat crop is forecast at 67.2 million bushels, down 9% from last year's crop, according tothe USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field office. Average yield isforecast at 42 bushels per acre, down 2 bushels from last year but 2 bushels above the 10-yearaverage.

Nebraska's corn harvest is progressing well. Below normal moisture for much of the first 4.5 months is allowing producers to make rapid progress with field preparation and planting. Progress across much of the remaining Corn Belt is not faring as well.
