Farm Bill Positive for Western Nebraska Sugar Beet, Bean Growers - UNL Economist

The 2008 Farm Bill contains some positive news for sugar beet and dry edible bean producers in western Nebraska, according to a University of Nebraska-Lincoln economist. Congress voted Thursday to override President Bush's veto of the Food, Conservation and Energy Act.
UNL Ag Economist: Ethanol Behind About 1.2% of U.S. Food Price Hike

Ethanol's increasing demand for corn is responsible for about 1.2% of the increase in U.S. food prices during the last two years, a UNL agricultural economist estimates. However, Richard Perrin said, in poorer parts of the world, ethanol's impact on food prices likely is much higher — perhaps accounting for as much as 15% of rising prices.
