Recent rains and lingering wet field conditions have hampered alfalfa harvest and may contribute to a condition I call “windrow disease.”
This refers to the striped appearance in fields where alfalfa windrows remained so long that regrowth was delayed. Usually it’s due to rained-on hay.

The year’s second hatch of rangeland grasshoppers is now underway in western and central Nebraska, and locally heavy infestations are occurring in Box Butte, Lincoln, Morrill, and Scotts Bluff counties. Other areas also may experience large outbreaks as this hatch continues.
