When hay is baled too dry, leaves fall to the ground, reducing both quality and yield. Unfortunately, hay baled too wet can get moldy, overheat, or even catch fire. There is a narrow moisture range that results in good hay that keeps well.
Nebraska Cattle on Feed Down 2%

Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.38 million cattle on feed on May 1, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. The inventory was down 2% from last year but 3% above May 1, 2006.
