Nebraska Soybean Management Field Days Aug. 11-14

The 17th annual Soybean Management Field Days Aug. 11-14 will focus on staying competitive in a global marketplace, increasing profits and meeting the world's growing food and energy needs starting right here in Nebraska.

The field days are sponsored by the Nebraska Soybean Board in partnership with Nebraska Extension in the university's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources and are funded through soybean checkoff dollars. The efforts of the checkoff are directed by the United Soybean Board promoting progress powered by U.S. farmers.

The field days will offer producers unbiased and research-based information to improve their soybean profitability.  Ron Pavelka of Glenvil, chairman of the Nebraska Soybean Board of Directors, says "Soybean Management Field Days are an excellent opportunity to access unbiased research that addresses many of today's potential soybean production and management decisions. Taking advantage of attending one of the four field days allows soybean producers from across the state to bring their check off funded research back home to be put to work on their farms."

The event consists of four stops across the state, each with replicated research, lunch and time for questions. Producers can obtain ideas and insight about the challenges they face in producing a quality crop at a profitable price in today's global economy.

• Grain Marketing/Farm Financial Outlook
• Truth (Soil Fertility Concepts for Soybeans) and Dare (Test it Yourself)
• Role of Water Quality and Nozzle Selection in Weed Management
• Integrated Soybean Production Study
• Soybean Irrigation Management
• Nebraska Soybean Checkoff Investment

By participating in the Soybean Management Field Days, producers will see their checkoff dollars at work bringing leading technology and ideas to producers.

Presenters include university specialists, educators and industry consultants.

Agronomists, plant disease, and insect specialists will be available to address production-related questions. Participants can bring unknown crop problems for complimentary identification.

Updates on biodiesel use and markets will be provided.  Attendees can also enter for a chance to win a 2015 Ford Explorer by attending a Soybean Management Field Day and completing a registration form onsite.

The field days begin with 9 a.m. registration and conclude at 2:30 p.m. Free registration is available the day of the event. Dates, locations and directions are:

• Tuesday, Aug. 11, near Holdrege — Rick and Chuck Bergman farm, 11289 741 Road
  From Holdrege, go north on Burlington St./ US-183 for 8 miles. Go 1.25 miles west on Cnty. Road 741.  Or from I-80, take Exit 257 and go south on US-183 for 8.5 mi.  Go 1.25 miles west on Cnty. Road 741.  Field site is on north side of road.
• Wednesday, Aug. 12, near Alda — Jason and Dennis Bonsack Farm, 3770 S 90th Road
  From Alda go 1 mile southwest on Hwy. 30. Go west 1 mile on Wildwood Drive. Go ½ mile north on Cnty. Rd. 90. Field site is on west side of road.
• Thursday, Aug. 13, near Wakefield — Mike Anderson farm, 85335 586th Ave. 
  From Wakefield, go south on Hwy. 35/Hwy. 16 for 5 miles  Go east onto Cnty. Rd. 853 for 2 miles.  Go north ¼ mile on Cnty. Rd. 11.  Field site is on east side of road.
• Friday, Aug. 14, near Greenwood — Kent Moravec farm,  23509 E Rock Creek Road
  From I-80 take exit 420 and go north 2 miles on Hwy.  63.  Go west ½ mile on Rock Creek Rd. From Greenwood go northeast 3 mile on Hwy. 6.  Go east ½ mile on Rock Creek Rd.  From Ashland go southwest 2 miles on Hwy. 6.  Go 1 mile south on Hwy. 63.  Go west ½ mile on Rock Creek Road. Field site is on south side of road (across from the Ashland Country Club).
