Winter Wheat Harvest Estimate up 42% from 2013

Based on July 1 conditions, Nebraska's 2014 winter wheat crop is forecast at 56 million bushels, up 42% from last year's crop, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Average yield is forecast at 40 bushels per acre, up 5 bushels from a year earlier.

Acreage to be harvested for grain is estimated at 1.40 million acres, up 24% from a year ago. This would be 93% of the planted acres, well above last year's 77% harvested.

Oat production is forecast at 3.15 million bushes, nearly double last year's output and the largest since 2005. Acreage for harvest, at 45,000 acres is up 20,000 acres from 2013. Yield, at 70 bushels per acres, is forecast to be 5 bushels above a year ago.
