On this week's UNL Market Journal Roy Smith, farmer and grain marketing consultant from Plattsmouth, reacts to the latest USDA crop progress report and discusses how delayed planting could affect corn and soybean markets.

• Upcoming Weather Patterns — Another portion of southeast Nebraska has moved out of drought conditions, according to the latest Drought Monitor. Al Dutcher, UNL Extension state climatologist, discusses forecasts for this summer and how 2013 weather patterns compare to those in 2012.
   
• International Agriculture — While China has become the major player when it comes to soybean imports, agricultural goods from Nebraska are exported all over the world. Stan Garbacz, agricultural trade representative for the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, recaps a few of his recent international trips, including his latest trip to Turkey.
   
• Hay and Forage Hotline — Nebraska Department of Ag director, Greg Ibach, is encouraging farmers with hay, forage or pasture they wish to sell or lease to use the department’s hay hotline. The tool is available year-round, but could be helpful connecting buyers and sellers during a year of drought and short supplies. (See CW story.)
   
• Irrigation in Nebraska — Nebraska irrigates more acres than any other state in the country. Since the end of October, the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources says more than 1200 wells have been registered for irrigation. Bruce Johnson, UNL ag economist, looks at the value of center pivots and how they operate at a premium compared to an earlier form of Nebraska irrigation. • Weather Forecast — Al Dutcher, UNL Extension state climatologist, gives his forecast for the coming week.
