On this week's Market Journal Elaine Kub, author of "Mastering the Grain Markets," analyzes current crop conditions, Brazil's soybean acreage in 2015, and the trading ranges for corn and soybeans.

Also from the July 25 Market Journal:

Foliar Fungicide Applications — Loren Giesler, UNL Extension plant pathologist, discusses research on foliar fungicide applications in soybeans sponsored by the Nebraska Soybean Board and featured at this year's Soybean Management Field Days. While past studies have shown these applications might provide a yield boost, the reason for the increase is uncertain.

Wheat Stem Sawfly Numbers — Growers in Nebraska's Panhandle saw very high numbers of wheat stem sawflies this year. Jeff Bradshaw, UNL Extension entomologist, explains where researchers are finding the sawflies.

Evaluating Fly Control — Dave Boxler, UNL Extension entomologist, says farmers and ranchers can be re-evaluating their fly control methods. Boxler also talks about grasshopper numbers in western Nebraska.

Weather Forecast — Al Dutcher, UNL Extension state climatologist, gives his forecast for the coming week.

Next Week on Market Journal

Cattle prices continue to stay high, while corn prices have settled below $4/bu. Typically, this means a good margin for cattle feeders. Mike Briggs will share his thoughts on where those markets might go as we move into August. Extension Educator Keith Glewen will be on to talk about the 2014 Soybean Management Field Days.
