Models Predict Potential for Alfalfa Weevil Feeding

Models Predict Potential for Alfalfa Weevil Feeding

April 27, 2007

Alfalfa weevils should still be small and hard to detect in most areas of Nebraska. With temperatures forecast to be above normal next week, feeding damage should be visible by mid to end of next week.

Recent rainfall may help spread a fungal disease that's detrimental to weevils, however, this can vary from area to area and it's hard to know the overall effect.

Figure 1 represents growing degree accumulations which can be used to predict alfalfa weevil feeding. Feeding usually begins when 300 gdd have accumulated.
