UNL's Department of Agronomy and Horticulture will present a two-day workshop on Pesticide Resistance Management December 4-5 at the Nebraska East Union.

The workshop, consisting of lecture, discussion and "hands-on" activities and problem-solving, is designed to provide producers, agronomists and other agribusiness professionals with a basic understanding of why crop insect pests, pathogens and weeds develop resistance to pesticides and other management techniques. Topics will include the evolutionary biological, genetic and pest biological principles underpinning pest resistance and its management. The role of transgenic crops is also examined. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be better able to design and evaluate pesticide resistance management strategies. Workshop presenters include faculty from the departments of Agronomy and Horticulture, Plant Pathology and Entomology. Course coordinator is Extension Weed Specialist Mark Bernards.

The workshop is available for UNL academic credit, noncredit professional development and CEU credit. Sessions will run from approximately 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. For noncredit participants, the registration fee is $250 if received on or before November 27; $300 thereafter. The fee includes all workshop-related materials, parking permit, lunch and refreshments both days. For individuals unable to attend the workshop, content also will be available online.
