Market Journal: Positive Outlook for Corn and Soybean Markets
February 27, 2009
Commodity prices will come back.
That's the message from one of the guest speakers on this week's Market Journal, which was filmed at the annual Women in Agriculture Conference in Kearney this week.
Mike Woolverton, a Kansas State University ag economist, says the market fundamentals for corn and soybeans are positive and recommends an increase in planted acres. When the general economy shows some stability, commodity markets will respond, Woolverton says
Other guests on this week's show include Terry Warren, field representative for Rural Community Insurance Services. He reminds Nebraska producers about crop insurance options, including premium discounts for triple stack corn. Major discounts for enterprise units are another crop insurance consideration.
In other economics news, Tina Barrett, director of the Nebraska Farm Business Association, Inc., advises producers to check with their accounting professional about how the federal stimulus package may benefit their operation. The stimulus package extends Section 179 depreciation benefits and provides bonus depreciation.
Other segments on this week's program include:
- The Nebraska Agribility program offers assistance to farmers with physical restrictions due to accidents or health problems. Extension Educator Sharry Nielsen describes how the program provides assessment as well as adaptation of equipment.
