• Roy Smith, farmer and grain consultant, about the recent swings in the corn and soybean markets. Smith explains that buying call options is a good strategy to use if you sold some new crop. This marketing tool has "worked extremely well in the past."

   

• Dr. Dave Smith, UNL Extension veterinarian, discusses grower options for disposing of dead livestock.

   

• Nebraska is now the number one state in irrigated acres, but there is little room for expansion. Bruce Johnson, an ag economist, and Dave Aiken, Extension water and ag law specialist, explains how producers can use new technologies, water meters, and new crop genetics to make the most efficient use of their water.

   

• Cattle producers are preparing for the breeding system and Rick Rasby, UNL Extension beef specialist, says early weaning of the calf at about 150 days will help the heifer return to good body condition. Rasby suggests that cattle producers be prepared to keep the early weaned calves and grow them to heavier weight before selling.

   

• Al Dutcher, UNL Extension state climatologist explains his long-range outlook for the rest of the summer.
