Crop producers interested in improving their irrigation and reducing energy costs will want to attend one of the Irrigation and Energy Conservation workshops being held across the state this month. .

The workshops are sponsored by the Nebraska Corn Growers and the Nebraska Corn Board in partnership with UNL Extension.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. followed by the program from 9:20 a.m. to 4 p.m.

By participating in the workshop, irrigated corn growers will learn how to apply less water and maximize the value of irrigation water, reduce irrigation pumping costs, further protect and enhance the environment, be aware of new technological advances in water management and use information relative to their farming operation that when implemented will enhance profitability.

UNL Extension faculty will present information on the following topics: 

• Estimating Pumping Plant Efficiency and Energy Costs
• Managing Nitrogen to Project Water Quality
• Atrazine Stewardship
• Estimating ET and Effects of Crop Residue
• Nebraska Ag Water Management (NAWMDN) Update
• “How To” for Watermark Sensors/Soil Water Monitoring
• Scheduling that Last Irrigation of the Season
• What’s New? Control Panels, Variable Rate Irrigation
• Chemigation Equipment Update, Training and Uses

The complementary registration fee is provided in part through funding by the Nebraska Corn Growers Association and the Nebraska Corn Board. Certified Crop Advisor credits have been applied for.

Limited seating is available. Growers are encouraged to preregister by contacting the UNL Extension office in the host county (see boxed information).
