The Fremont Corn Expo Jan. 5 will provide producers and agribusiness professionals ideas and strategies to remain competitive in the corn industry.

Registration for the free event begins at 8 a.m. with breakfast and a chance to view exhibits. The expo, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the main arena at Christensen Field, is designed for growers, crop consultants, agronomists, seed corn representatives and others looking to improve corn production, marketing and utilization. Lunch also will be served to participants.

The expo highlights topics identified by corn growers as important to their farming operations.

Featured speaker Art Barnaby, Kansas State University ag economist, will address Reducing Risk -- Increasing Your Odds for Success.

Other program presentations include:

  • Nitrogen Know-How -- Products and Practices, Richard Ferguson, UNL extension soil fertility specialist;
  • Trouble Shooting Grain Storage and Handling Issues, Tom Dorn, UNL extension educator;
  • Politics and Energy: Keys to Nebraska's Future, Neil Moseman, Moseman and Associates; and
  • Today's Land Market -- What to Make of It, Bruce Johnson, UNL agricultural economist.

"The Fremont Corn Expo is a great opportunity for producers to fine-tune their production and marketing practices going into the 2011 growing season," said Dave Varner, UNL Extension educator. "Participants will leave the expo with information that they can use immediately and long-term."

A special nitrogen and irrigation management certification training will be conducted for Lower Platte North Natural Resources District producers immediately following the expo at 3 p.m.
