UNL CropWatch July 23, 2010: Market Journal: Ag Economist Recommends Selling Some Harvest Wheat
July 23, 2010
Producers should look at selling a portion of their recent wheat harvest and look at a September or December contract, according to Paul Burgener, extension ag economics research analyst. He was a guest speaker on this week's Market Journal, hosted by Doug Jose, extension farm management specialist
Also on this week's show:
- Jenny Rees, extension educator in Clay County, discusses why irrigators shouldn't start irrigating too quickly. Delaying irrigaiton should allow the crop to strengthen its root system to improve nutrient and moisture uptake later in the season.
- Roric Paulman, Nebraska producer of Paulman farms, discusses why his operation favors the team approach to production management and what that means for long-term decision making.
- Austin Lammers, UNL Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory research engineer, explains how the ISOBUS allows many types of computerized farming equipment to intrace with each other, helping to minimize technology frustration.
