Nebraska Farm Numbers Decline in 2025

Fewer farms, slightly larger operations: new USDA data show Nebraska’s agricultural landscape continues to shift in 2025.

Nebraska's number of farms and ranches declined during 2025, marking the 11th consecutive year of decline in the state. According to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, there were 44,100 farms and ranches in Nebraska last year, down 200 farms from 2024. Numbers of farms and ranches in Nebraska with less than $100,000 in agricultural sales was unchanged from a year earlier, while operations with agricultural sales of $100,000 or more decreased 150 farms.

Land in farms and ranches in Nebraska totaled 43.9 million acres, a decrease of 0.2% from 2024. The average size of operation, at 995 acres, was up two acres from a year earlier.
