From wheat to oats, Nebraska’s 2025 small grains outlook shrinks sharply in latest USDA report.

Based on July 1 conditions, Nebraska's 2025 winter wheat crop is forecast at 30.3 million bushels, down 37% from last year's crop, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Average yield is forecast at 37 bushels per acre, down 15 bushels from last year. Acreage to be harvested for grain is estimated at 820,000 acres, down 100,000 acres from last year. This would be 85% of the planted acres, below last year's 92% harvested. 

July 1 hay stocks of 1,750,000 tons are up 84% from last year.

Oat production is forecast at 1.56 million bushels, down 63% from last year. Average yield is forecast at 52 bushels per acre, down 17 bushels from 2024. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 30,000 acres, down 17% from a year ago.
