Green combine kicks up dust as it harvests soybean field
A slower start to harvest and late-developing crops could shape Nebraska’s fall season — here’s the latest progress and condition update.

Nebraska’s fall harvest is off to a slower-than-usual start, with corn, soybean and dry bean progress trailing last year and the five-year average. Oat harvest wrapped up for the season, and winter wheat planting is underway with early stands beginning to emerge.

For the week ending Sept. 22, 2025, Nebraska producers averaged 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture was rated 6% very short, 18% short, 66% adequate and 10% surplus. Subsoil moisture was 4% very short, 20% short, 67% adequate and 9% surplus.
