Nebraska’s fall harvest made steady progress last week, but trends diverged among major crops. Soybean harvest slipped further behind both last year and the five-year average, while corn also remains slower than normal. In contrast, dry bean harvest surged ahead, narrowing its gap with typical progress. Sorghum harvest is holding close to average, and winter wheat emergence continues well ahead of recent years despite planting running slightly behind schedule.
For the week ending Sept. 28, 2025, Nebraska producers averaged 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture was rated 4% very short, 23% short, 63% adequate and 10% surplus. Subsoil moisture was 5% very short, 24% short, 63% adequate and 8% surplus.
