Nebraska growers looking for practical, in-season crop management information can hear directly from extension specialists and see field research firsthand during an upcoming event at the South Central Agricultural Laboratory near Clay Center.

The annual Weed Management Field Day will be held Wednesday, June 24, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the program running from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will feature research updates and management information for crop producers, agronomists, industry representatives and others interested in Nebraska crop production.

Participants will have the opportunity to watch on-site demonstrations of emerging technologies and new herbicides for corn, soybean and sorghum. The morning will begin with a tour focused on weed management in soybean and sorghum, followed by a tour covering weed management in field corn.

Attendees will gain insights from field experiments evaluating herbicide-resistant weed management strategies, including a variety of herbicide programs and the use of cover crops such as cereal rye and hairy vetch for integrated weed management.

“We have projects to demonstrate how best we can use emerging technologies such as precision sprayer of Ecorobotix ARA for target weed management and chemical savings,” said Amit Jhala, extension weed management specialist. “Attending this field day offers stakeholders a valuable opportunity to learn effective strategies for managing herbicide-resistant weeds and save chemicals.”

Three Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) continuing education units will be available in the integrated pest management category.

There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required.
