From laser weed control to precision agriculture, emerging technologies are creating new opportunities for more sustainable farming. A Monday, Oct. 26, seminar at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will explore how these innovations can help producers improve resource efficiency, reduce pesticide use and diversify their operations.

Cornelia Weltzien, an agricultural engineering researcher from Germany, will present “Laser Weeder to Diversification Strategies: DeepTech as Enabler for Sustainability?” and discuss the practical applications and limitations of emerging agricultural technologies, including how they can complement farm diversification strategies.

Weltzien heads the Department of Agromechatronics at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) and holds the Chair of Agromechatronics at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), Germany.

The seminar will begin at noon in Room 219 of Chase Hall on UNL's East Campus. Refreshments will be available beginning at 11:45 a.m. and a free lunch will be provided to attendees.

Participants may attend in person or virtually. Those attending online should register to receive the webinar link.

The seminar is organized by the Agricultural Research Division in partnership with the Nebraska Digital Agriculture Hub.
