Slowed by early delays, Nebraska’s dry beans are now trailing the five-year average for blooming by nearly 30 percentage points.

Nebraska crops continued to lag behind average development benchmarks this past week, with field conditions remaining mostly steady. Topsoil moisture was rated 6% very short, 23% short, 66% adequate and 5% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were 10% very short, 30% short, 57% adequate and 3% surplus. There were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork.

  • Corn
    • Silking reached 76% — behind 90% last year and 85% for the five-year average.
    • Dough stage was 20% — behind 34% last year and 23% for the five-year average.
    • Condition rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 17% fair, 49% good and 28% excellent.
  • Soybean
    • Blooming reached 73% — behind 91% last year and 85% for the five-year average.
    • Setting pods was 29% — behind 53% last year and 49% for the five-year average.
    • Condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 21% fair, 51% good and 24% excellent.
  • Sorghum
    • Headed was 37% — ahead of 33% last year and 31% for the five-year average.
    • Coloring reached 3% — ahead of 1% last year and equal to 1% for the five-year average.

  • Winter Wheat
    • Harvested was 79% — behind 94% last year and 85% for the five-year average.
  • Oats
    • Harvested was 59% — behind 79% last year and 71% for the five-year average.
    • Condition rated 10% very poor, 12% poor, 35% fair, 37% good and 6% excellent.
  • Dry Beans
