Cover Crop Field Day Set for May 27 in Grant

Western Nebraska producers looking to add or refine cover crops can learn from extension specialists, field demonstrations and other growers during a free field day May 27 near Grant.

A cover crop field day will be held Wednesday, May 27 at the Henry J. Stumpf International Wheat Center near Grant, Nebraska. The event, “Grow What Works: Cover Crops for Western Nebraska Cropping Systems,” will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. MDT and will showcase cover crop options that may benefit producers in the region. 

Extension specialists will discuss topics related to cover crop production, including water use, nitrogen leaching, irrigation, herbicides, weed control and soil health. 

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn through field tours, demonstrations, producer experiences, ongoing research and a keynote presentation from Dr. Meagan Schipanski of Colorado State University.  

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a trip to the field to discuss a variety of cover crops. 

The field day is free to attend, and a complimentary lunch will be provided. Registration is encouraged to ensure an accurate meal count.  

The Henry J. Stumpf International Wheat Center is located east of Grant at 76025 Rd 329. From U.S. Highway 61, travel east on Road 761 for 1 mile, then turn south on Road 329. The building is located one-half mile south on the east side of the road.
