As corn diseases continue to develop across Nebraska and growers weigh fungicide decisions, Nebraska Extension is offering a free educational program featuring the latest disease updates, weather outlooks and management recommendations. "Disease Conditions and Weather Outlooks" will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, July 24, at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center in Kearney.

The program will also be available via Zoom and livestreamed on the @ScoutNebraska YouTube channel beginning at 10 a.m.

The program will provide timely information for producers, crop consultants and agricultural professionals as disease pressure evolves through the growing season. Tar spot, bacterial leaf streak, Goss's wilt and northern corn leaf blight have already been identified in Nebraska corn fields this summer, while diseases such as southern rust in corn and white mold in soybean may emerge in the weeks ahead.

Nebraska Extension Specialists Tamra Jackson-Ziems and Dylan Mangel will join Nebraska Extension Meteorologist Eric Hunt and Nebraska Extension Educator Talon Mues to explore how seasonal weather conditions may influence disease development during grain fill and discuss management decisions growers may face in the weeks ahead. Topics will include disease identification, fungicide selection and management, weather forecasts, and Nebraska Extension tools used to monitor and communicate disease information.

The event is free to attend. Those planning to attend in person may register by calling 402-719-2699. A free lunch will be provided for in-person attendees who register.

Kearney's Holiday Inn is located at 110 Second Ave., Kearney, NE 68845.
