Nebraska Extension is offering growers, crop consultants and educators a firsthand look at cutting-edge weed control strategies for corn, soybean and sorghum at its 2025 Weed Management Field Day on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

The annual event will feature numerous expert-led on-site demonstrations of emerging technologies and new herbicides at the South Central Agricultural Laboratory near Clay Center, Nebraska. The field day will begin at 9 a.m. with a tour focused on weed management in soybean and sorghum, followed by a tour covering weed management in field corn. The day includes a free lunch for all and will conclude at 1 p.m.

Attendees will gain insights from field experiments evaluating herbicide-resistant weed management strategies, including a variety of herbicide programs and the use of cover crops such as cereal rye and hairy vetch.

“We have projects to demonstrate how best we can use cover crops, such as cereal rye or hairy vetch, for weed suppression. New herbicides and technologies are coming to the market, including Double Team sorghum,” said Dr. Amit Jhala, extension weed management specialist. “Attending this field day offers stakeholders a valuable opportunity to learn effective strategies for managing herbicide-resistant weeds.”

Three Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) Continuing Education Units will be available in the Integrated Pest Management category.

There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required.

The South Central Agricultural Laboratory is located five miles west of the intersection of Highways 14 and 6, or 13 miles east of Hastings on Highway 6. GPS coordinates: 40.57539, -98.13776.
