Moth numbers were very low this week with no sites reaching a threshold. Cutworm activity on corn was reported in York County.

Cutworm feeding on emerged corn was reported from Butler County during the past 10 days. These cutworms were thought associated with variegated cutworm flights noted in mid-April. Black cutworm and variegated cutworm moth numbers at or beyond sensitive points were noted during the last seven days from Saline and Butler counties. Crops in these areas need to be scouted closely over the next few weeks for cutworm caterpillar activity.
Resource: Scout Emerging Corn for Insects; Don't Assume Protection as high cutworm populations can overwhelm treated seed or Bt hybrids. Most cutting occurs within the first seven days. (April 29, 2016 CW)
