2014 Nebraska Wheat Tours


UNL wheat plot three miles west of Beaver City.

 

A slate of winter wheat plot tours this June will feature field comparisons and talks by specialists in wheat breeding, soil nutrients, and pest management. Varieties planted vary by site.

West Central Tour

June 17, 7:30 a.m., Arapahoe Community Center

June 18, 10 a.m., Nebraska-Wyoming State Line
Directions: From Lyman, Neb., drive 2 miles south on Co Rd 2 to Co Rd J; then 0.5 miles west to Rd 63; then 7 miles south to WY Rd 32. Plots are west .75 miles on south side of road. From Hawk Springs, Wyo., drive 10 mi east on Co Rd 32.

June 18, 6 p.m., Deuel County
Speakers: Stephen Baenziger, UNL wheat breeder; Justin McMechan, UNL entomology; Melissa Evans, extension educator; and Dipak Santra, alternative crops breeder
Directions: From Highway 30 and Wheatland Dr. on the west edge of Chappell, drive north 9 miles on Rd 165. Plot is on east side of road.

June 19, 9 a.m., High Plains Ag Lab
This is part of a larger Ag Lab Field Day at the HPAL and includes a meal.

Directions: From HPAL office, drive 0.5 miles east on Cr. Rd. 32N, then north 0.25 miles on trial road. Plot is on the north edge of field 25.

June 19, 4 p.m., Box Butte County Irrigated

Directions: From Hemingford, drive 0.5 mile straight north on CR
70 (oil road). Plots are on the east side of the road.

Directions: From Hemingford, drive about 5.5 miles south on Highway 2, about 0.5 miles west on Hall Rd, turn south on Rd. 67. Plots are ¼ mile south on Rd. 67 from Hall Rd & Rd 67 intersection.
