Grain Engulfment Rescue Training Workshops July 7, 8

Grain Engulfment Rescue Training Workshops July 7, 8

Grain Engulfment Rescue Training workshops will be held at two locations next week.

The training, sponsored in part by GSI and DuPont Pioneer, is intended for industry personnel who actively work in the grain and commodities industry as well as fire fighter emergency rescue personnel who might be called to an engulfment rescue.

Seminars will be held

  • July 7 at the Dawson County Fairgrounds in Lexington, hosted by the Dawson County Corn Growers, and
  • July 8 at the American Legion in Ceresco, hosted by the Saunders County Soybean Growers and Saunders County Corn Growers.

Both seminars begin at 5:30 p.m. and are free.

Over the past 50 years, more than 900 cases of grain engulfment have been reported, with a fatality rate of 62%. With a 10-inch auger, it takes just 25 seconds for a 6-foot person to be completely buried in grain.

This training will include classroom training and onsite demonstrations. Specific training topics to be covered include:
  • confined space entry,
  • flowing grain safety,
  • rope and harness techniques,
  • sweep unload and PTO system safety.
