Controlling weeds in conventional and organic cropping systems will be addressed at a one-day workshop on integrated weed management principles Feb. 18 at the Nebraska East Union at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's East Campus.

Stevan Knezevic, assistant professor and extension weed specialist, will present the workshop aimed at helping agribusiness professionals and producers with a working knowledge of integrated weed management.

Topics to be addressed include: the importance of weed biology and ecology; critical periods of weed control and weed thresholds; weed shifts and why they occur; alternatives to herbicide use, including flaming; and herbicide-resistant crops.

Workshop content is expected to benefit certified professional agronomists and crop consultants, crop production and pest management industry personnel, producers in conventional and organic farming operations, and extension educators.

The noncredit registration fee is $75 prior to Feb. 11 and $100 thereafter. The fee includes workshop materials, refreshments, lunch and a parking permit. The workshop will offer about 6.0 continuing education units in pest management.
