USDA: Nebraska Cattle on Feed up 2% from Last Year

Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.51 million cattle on feed on March 12. THe inventory was up 2% from last year and 8% above March 1. This is the highest March 1 inventory since the series began in 1994.

Placements in feedlots during February totaled 360,000 head, up 9% from 2006 and 14% above 2005.

Marketings of fed cattle during February totaled 380,000 head, up 6% from last year and 15% above February two years ago. Other disappearance during February totaled 10,000 head compared with 10,000 head during February 2006 and 15,000 head February 2005.

Nationally, cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.6 million head on March 1, 2007. The inventory was 4% below March 1, 2006 but 4% above March 1, 2005.

Placements in feedlots during February totaled 1.66 million, 4% above 2006 and 9% above 2005.

Marketings of fed cattle during February totaled 1.71 million, 7% above 2006 and 5% above 2005. Other disappearance totaled 75,000 during February, 3% above 2006, but 3% below 2005.
