Nebraska topsoil moisture supplies rated 6% very short, 35% short, 59% adequate, and 0% surplus for the week ending July 27, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 9% very short, 29% short, 62% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Field Crops Report

Ninety-seven percent of the winter wheat crop was mature, ahead of 93% last year but equal to the five-year average. Winter wheat harvested was 79%, ahead of 72% last year but behind the average of 83%.

Corn condition rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 19% fair, 52% good, and 22% excellent. Corn silking was 85%, ahead of 77% last year, but near 83% average. Corn dough was 23%, ahead of 3% last year and the average of 15%.

Soybean conditions rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 21% fair, 55% good, and 17% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 83%, near 80% last year and 79% average. Soybean setting pods was 53%, well ahead of 22% last year and the average of 30%.

Sorghum conditions rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 33% fair, 41% good, and 21% excellent. Sorghum headed was 36%, well ahead of 23% last year and the average of 20%. Sorghum coloring was 5%, ahead of 0 last year and average.

Oat conditions rated 3% very poor, 18 poor, 27 fair, 49 good, and 3 excellent. Oats coloring was 97%. Oats mature was 84%. Oats harvested was 58%, well behind 79% last year and the average of 73%.

Dry bean conditions rated 3% very poor, 1% poor, 16% fair, 61% good, and 19% excellent. Fifty percent of the dry bean crop was blooming, behind 60% last year and the average of 57%.

Proso millet planting was 98% complete, near 100% last year and for the average.

Alfalfa hay condition rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 31% fair, 53% good, and 8% excellent. Alfalfa hay second cutting was 86% complete, equal to last year and near the average of 87%. Alfalfa hay third cutting was 36% complete, well ahead of 5% last year and the average of 17%.

Pasture and range conditions rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 30% fair, 47% good, and 7% excellent.
