Nebraska temperatures last week averaged up to 10 degrees above normal, causing dryland crop stress in areas where there was little or now recent rainfall, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service Sept. 8 report. Crop growth was progressing and only slightly behind normal in several categories.
Topsoil moisture supplies rated 8% very short, 30% short, 59% adequate, and 3% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 7% very short, 25% short, 67% adequate, and 1% surplus.
