The OPINS Co-op at North Bend will be hosting an educational event on organic crop production August 25 near Beemer. The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with registration at the Indian Hills Golf Course Club House and continue at 10 a.m. with a tour of a field research site one mile south of the club house. Particpants will return to the club house for later presentations.
Topics will include:
- Field research of speciality corn grains, including food corn hybrids adpated to Nebraska growing conditions
- Crop rotations used for organic grain production, including ground covers and their potential use for nutrition and weed control
- Grain train research and availability of seed; also, cover crop seed availability and the markets for alternatative grains
- Water containment near the proposed XL Pipeline route
