Nebraska farmers conducted over 80 on-farm research studies in 2021 on a wide variety of topics, including:
- Pivot Bio
- Xyway fungicide
- Hydraulic downforce
- Starter fertilizer
- Nitrogen inhibitors
- Soybean nitrogen application
- Sensor-based nitrogen fertigation
- Crop models for nitrogen management
- Cover crop interseeding, and more.
“The goal of the on-farm research network is to help producers gain valuable agronomic data to make management decision with confidence,” said Laura Thompson, Nebraska Extension educator and On-Farm Research Network director. “The studies are conducted on your farm, so the data you generate is local and relevant to your operation.”
You can access these research results and benefit from the research conducted by farmers across the state by downloading a PDF copy of the 2021 on-farm research results.
The Nebraska On-Farm Research Network is open to farmers across the state and welcomes new participants. With planting just around the corner, on-farm research is a great way to evaluate something new on your operation, gain the data to make future management decisions with confidence, and network with innovative growers across the state. Nebraska Extension Educators can provide technical expertise to set up reliable and robust research studies and analyze and evaluate research results.
Here is what people who attended the On-Farm Research results meeting in February had to say about what they learned from the 2021 studies:
“Always nice to hear real-world research and results.”
“Not biased, down to earth research.”
“I like hearing about new practices people are trying, whether we implement them or not.”
New research projects are posted online, or custom protocols can be developed to address questions that are relevant to your operation. Are you looking to utilize your nitrogen better this year with the high fertilizer prices? Try a precision nitrogen management study and learn about what technologies or techniques will improve N management on your farm. Gain hands-on experience with new technologies to manage nitrogen more efficiently and get paid for your time.
