Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 ormore head, contained 1.96 million cattle on feed on September 1, according to USDA's NationalAgricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. The inventory was up 2% from lastyear but 4% below September 1, 2006.

Placements in feedlots during August totaled 445,000 head, down 4% from 2007and 5% below 2006.

Marketings of fed cattle during August totaled 395,000 head, down 9% from lastyear but 10% above August two years ago. Other disappearance during August totaled10,000 head, the same as 2007 and 2006.

Nationally, cattle on feed is down 3%. Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 10.0 million head on September 1, 2008. The inventory was 3% below September 1, 2007 and 9% below September 1, 2006.Placements in feedlots during August totaled 2.06 million, 3% below 2007 and10% below 2006. This is the second lowest placements for the month of August since theseries began in 1996.

Marketings of fed cattle during August totaled 1.88 million, 9% below 2007 and9% below 2006. This is the lowest fed cattle marketings for the month of August since theseries began in 1996. Other disappearance totaled 49,000 during August, 2% below 2007and 17% below 2006.
