Addressing Common Cover Crop Challenges and Questions in Nebraska
A UNL-USDA NRCS Collaboration

Introduction
This educational module — developed collaboratively by the Nebraska Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) — aims to advance conservation across Nebraska by enhancing state-specific knowledge related to cover crops. It brings together a curated collection of resources — webinar recordings, presentation slides, transcripts and fact sheets — developed as part of a four-webinar series hosted from October 2024 through January 2025.
These webinars were designed to connect NRCS employees and UNL Extension professionals, creating an opportunity to share knowledge, practical solutions, expert advice, and field-based experiences on managing cover crops in the unique context and environmental conditions of Nebraska. Each session explored key topics including Impacts of Cover Crops on Cash Crop Yields, Water Use by Cover Crops, Cover Crops Return on Investment, and Biomass Expectations of Common Cover Crop Species. The webinars featured experienced speakers and facilitated breakout discussions by region, offering attendees both actionable knowledge and opportunities to network and problem-solve with peers across Nebraska.
These course materials are part of a collaborative agreement between USDA NRCS and the University of Nebraska to support conservation delivery.
