Ag and Science Day for High School Youth at Gudmundsen
April 4, 2008
If you know youth interested in studying agriculture or science, tell them about the upcoming Youth Field Day to be held April 23 at UNL's Gudmundsen Sandhills Laboratory near Whitman.
The program will begin at 9 a.m. MT (10 a.m. CT). Youth can rotate through on-site presentations about agriculture, science, and the many careers available in these disciplines. Presentations will be by Extension specialists and other experts.
Specialists will speak on location about wet meadow management, allow students to collect samples from a fistulated cow, view microbes under microscopes from a rumen sample, learn about artificial insemination of beef cattle, and much more. Representatives of UNL's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture will talk about the variety of college majors related to agriculture and science.
Any schools interested in participating should contact the Central Sandhills Area Extension office at 800-657-2113 or 308-645-2267 by April 16 for a meal count. Parents, FFA alumni, and Extension staff also are encouraged to bring youth to the Field Day. Local sponsors will provide breakfast and lunch.
