Extension Educator in Colfax, Butler and Polk Counties

Planting is advancing quickly in the Colfax, Butler, and Polk County areas. Corn planting is wrapping up — I’d say soybean is likely 60% or more completed. With that said, severe weather hit hard across this region over the last few days. The Colfax County area reporting 2-6 inches and parts of the Butler County area seem to be 7-8 inches. Localized flooding was an issue in low lying areas. Strong winds (90+ mph reported just outside of Columbus). Several irrigation systems were knocked down along with extensive tree damage. The NWS survey team will be in the area to survey damage soon. Alfalfa weevil is in high numbers in select area alfalfa sites. In some cases, treatment is being suggested.
