Drone Education Takes Off in Southwest Nebraska in December 2024
Two great educational opportunities will be hosted by Nebraska Extension in southwest Nebraska in December — the second annual Drones in Ag Workshop and Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam Prep Course.
Second Annual Drones in Ag Workshop
Drone pilots and businesses will converge for a second year at the Stumpf International Wheat Center at Grant, Nebraska for the second annual Drones in Ag Workshop on Dec. 17, 2024. This workshop serves as a platform to exchange knowledge and experiences among participants, given the growing nature of this industry. The widespread adoption of drones in agriculture offers significant prospects for enhancing resource management and operational efficiency in farming practices.
The workshop will include presentations on drone licensing and FAA regulations but will also feature the opportunity for attendees to explore drone mapping software, learn about basic equipment maintenance and how to follow flight safety checklists, as well as a chance to hear from Frenchman Valley Co-op about their drone spraying program.
The Drones in Ag Clinic starts at 9 a.m. (MST) on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, and will wrap up at 2 p.m. (MST) at Stumpf International Wheat Center, located at 76025 Road 329, Grant, NE 69140. Registration is $75 with lunch provided. Registration is online.

Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam Prep Course
For those wishing to acquire a Remote Pilot Certificate (aka Drone License) to fly drones commercially, the first step in the process is to pass the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Exam. This is a two-hour and 60-question exam that covers several topics in aviation.
To prepare for passing this exam, Nebraska Extension is offering a one-day (eight-hour) course that will prepare students to pass the FAA exam. For convenience of those who wish to attend both events, this course will be held the day after the drone workshop on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the same location. The registration fee is $275 and includes study materials and lunch. Pre-register for the course by Monday, Dec. 16. Educational discount is available.
