On this week's CropWatch podcast, Michael Sindelar talks with Tamra Jackson-Ziems about corn seedling diseases and indicators to watch for in the field. Such early season fungal diseases in corn can include pythium, rhizoctonia, and fusarium. 

Identifying a specific disease often can be difficult as different diseases have similar appearing symptoms, Jackson-Ziems said. The plant pathologist discusses how to collect and submit a quality plant sample to the Pest and Plant Diagnostic Laboratory. The last part of the podcast is about how seedling diseases and other spring stresses affect corn later in the growing season.
