Tyler Williams, Extension Educator in Lancaster County: Harvest is rapidly progressing with most of the soybeans out and about 70% of the corn out. Corn yields have been very good and soybean yield reports have been fairly average. I haven't seen much movement of anhydrous applicators or fieldwork, but that should get rolling any day. (11/7/2017)
John Wilson, Extension Educator in Burt County: Soybean harvest is basically wrapped up and corn harvest is roughly 60% done due to a late start. The high winds certainly pointed out which hybrids stand or don’t stand, and really dried down the corn, reducing the need for drying. Yields have been good with a reliable report of 90+ bushels on soybean, with averages in the 60s and some 70s. (11/7/2017)
Nathan Mueller, Extension Educator in Dodge County: Pretty much done with soybeans and relatively disappointed in soybean yields with a wide range in yields with average of 60-70 bpa. Corn is about 70% done with yields in the 130-170 range with reports of 3-70 bushels on the ground due to wind. Winter wheat planting had a late start and just finishing up. (11/7/2017)
Keith Jarvi, Extension Educator for Dixon, Wayne, Cedar and Knox Counties: Yields are variable, but generally good. Still only around 45% done with corn harvest, but it's typical to be behind in the north. We have some fields with down corn and others still standing nicely. Field work has been minimal. (11/7/2017)
Jenny Rees, Extension Educator in York and Seward Counties: Corn harvest is 85-90% done and soybean harvest is 99% done. Yields were great before the week of wind. Downed corn ranges from 2-100+ bu/ac in the area. Wheat and rye have been planted in the last few weeks, some possibly for Palmer amaranth control. Not much anhydrous has been applied yet. (11/7/2017)
Troy Ingram – a little snow and soybeans are basically done. Yields are somewhat disappointing, but recent years have been quite high. About 50% completed on corn harvest with a lot of corn on the ground from wind. Seem to have a lot of cover crops going in on highly erodible ground. Some fall herbicides going on pastures, but not much fertilizer. (11/7/2017)
Todd Whitney, Extension Educator in Phelps County: Early planted wheat is looking good, but late October plantings are struggling to get established. Some lack of moisture and a little snow. Corn harvest should finish up this week. Yields were really good before wind and downed corn. Some hybrids are holding better than others and fields that stayed greener seem to have better ear retention. Soybeans had more shattering than normal. Early October rain events caused some test weight loss on soybeans. Wind changed the outlook on how people are feeling about the harvest. (11/7/2017)
Sarah Sivits, Extension Educator in Dawson County: Soybeans are mostly done, but growers are still picking corn. We had some snow on Halloween and a little snow last night which is slowing things down. Wind had a big impact on the area. Some are baling and grazing these fields. A few anhydrous tanks are out, but not many. The wheat that is up looks pretty good. (11/7/2017)
Karen DeBoer, Extension Educator in Cheyenne County: We got 2-3 inches of snow last night, but prior to that growers were making good progress with harvest. Dryland is mostly out. We had quite a few acres of milo, which is done. Millet is done and sunflowers still need to be harvested. Late planted wheat has not come up. (11/7/2017)
Robert Tigner, Extension Educator in Red Willow County: We have some corn with tops broken off and ears lost due to wind. Some wheat fields are dong well if planted on time, before the rain; those planted later are struggling. Dryland yields are average to above average. Yield report in Hayes County is very high for irrigated corn. Harvest of irrigated corn is about 75% done. (11/7/2017)
